In Honour of International Women’s Day, KW TITANS announce the #women4women game to Celebrate the Rise Of Women in sport!

In honour of International Women’s Day, the KW Titans Professional Basketball Club is proud to announce the #women4women game, celebrating the rise of Women in Sport on Thursday, April 2nd, 2020.

Ashley MacSporran- Assitant Coach/ Game Day Director

“The goal of this game is to fill the Kitchener AUD with women from any sport or industry to rally behind women in sport. But it goes beyond that, we have male supporters such as Investment Advisor Mark Dickens who is bringing all of his female clients to this powerful event” said Melissa Melnychuk, VP of Business development.

Melissa Melnychuk- VP Of Business Development

This is an important game, grounded by a very important message. We want this known as “the event” to be at if you are a female supporting the rise of women, in any industry. “Sport” is an area that women are still working to pave a path for future generations, we have a lot to be proud of, but there is still a long way to go.

“The number of women and girls participating in regular physical activity, recreational sport, and elite competition has increased rapidly in the last few decades. This is significant, considering the fact that no women participated in the first Olympic Games back in 1896. Women and girls, however, who account for more than 50 percent of the population of Canada, continue to be underrepresented in the sport and physical activity system.”  Sport For Life.

Kathleen Dacosta- Team Athletic Trainer

The KW Titans club is proud to celebrate the women within their own organization. The roles of Assistant Coach, VP of Business Development, Team Athletic Trainer, Accountant, Game Day Coordinator, Game Day Assistant, Manager of VIP Experience and Fan Experience Coordinator are all held by women!

The team has sent out invites to the region’s local post-secondary schools, high-schools, and sports clubs to this game as well.

A list of elite and professional female athletes will be in attendance, one being Chelsea Aubry, female Basketball Olympian who competed in the summer 2012 games.

The Titans also welcome, Ella Matteucci, a former professional hockey player in the Candian Women’s Hockey League, and baseball player for Canada’s Women’s National Team.

“I am so excited to be celebrating these women, and the women who are driven to get up every day for their love of their sport. I have been one of those women for a long time, and I hope that we can pave the way for the next generation of female athletes,” she said.
