The team is now gearing up to play for the championship title against the Sudbury Five – the league’s defending champs. With home court advantage, Titans will be hosting the Five on April 16 and April 19 for the first two games in the final series.

This will be the second time the Titans are in the final playoffs. The team was in the 23/24 finals (2 years ago) against London Lightning, who won.

The KW Titans are this year’s Basketball Super League regular season champions, finishing the season 19 – 7. The final game, held in Sudbury, had the Titans in front through all four quarters, leading in field goals and shots at the line. The Titans also had success with turnovers, gaining 18 pts . Their largest lead in the game had them up by 19 points. The final score of 100-98, cemented the Titans regular season finish at the top

The success of the team so far this season is partly due to having the strongest roster in the team’s 9 year history. With contributions coming in from across the entire bench, each player has brought their individual strengths, working together as a complete team each time they step onto the court.

On Saturday March 28, the KW Titans made history hosting Ontario’s first ever Orange Jersey Basketball Game.

The Orange Jersey Project has previously brought awareness through hockey, lacrosse, and football initiatives across Canada and the March 28 event marked an important expansion into basketball. Partnering with the Orange Shirt Society and the Orange Jersey Project, it was an honour for the Titans to be a part of this initiative that supports reconciliation through sport.

These ‘first games’ play an important role in demonstrating a commitment to reconciliation through action, and the power of sport to bring people together. They also serve as a call for other teams to participate and support reconciliation.

The game was especially meaningful as Phyllis Webstad, founder of the Orange Shirt Society, attended as our special guest. Phyllis, who is from Williams Lake, British Columbia, inspired Orange Shirt Day and Every Child Matters through sharing her story of having her orange shirt taken from her on her first day at residential school.

Special orange jerseys worn by the team were designed by Jeremy Boston, Phyllis’ son and director with the Orange Jersey Project.

The game included a number of invited guests and activities including:

  • Local Indigenous leaders and groups
  • Local leaders
  • A short introduction by Phyllis at tip off
  • Jordan Hart performed 215 and Counting at halftime, followed by drummers and dancers
  • Community drumming and dancing followed the game
  • GRT’s Every Child Matters bus and the WRPS Every Child Matters cruiser were placed at the box office entrance as acknowledgement of the event and its importance

Coordinating an event of this magnitude is no easy task, and the Titans want to thank all of the community members who helped make it possible from the Orange Jersey Project, Orange Shirt Society and the KW Titans volunteers.

A special thank goes to Sheena Merling of Orange Shirt Society for being one of the primary drivers of this event. With her endless efforts to make it all happen, Sheena was the glue that held everything together over the past year of planning and for the day of the game itself. We are incredibly grateful for all she did!

If you or your team are interested in participating in the Orange Jersey Project, you can reach out to theOJP team for more information.

The KW Titans pushed the Sudbury Five to the brink Saturday night, but a late surge fell just short in a 116–113 thriller at Sudbury Community Arena.

The Titans erased a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit and had a chance in the final seconds, showcasing the resilience that has defined this group during their recent three-wins-in-four-games stretch.

Sudbury Builds Early Lead

Sudbury opened with energy, jumping out to a 29–23 lead after the first quarter and carrying a 56–52 advantage into halftime. Balanced scoring and efficient perimeter shooting helped the Five build momentum, and by the end of the third quarter they extended their lead to 85–71.

Sudbury’s offensive rhythm was especially strong in the second half, shooting 36 per cent from beyond the arc and outscoring the Titans 52–34 in the paint. The Five also capitalized defensively, forcing 18 turnovers that translated into 31 points and building their cushion.

Titans Explode for 42 Fourth-Quarter Points

But the Titans never backed down.

Coaches Cliff Clinkscales and James Robinson take a time out to regroup the KW Titans for a furious push in the final-quarter of the game.

Led by Ty Groce’s dominant 23-point, 15-rebound performance, Kitchener-Waterloo stormed back in the fourth quarter, pouring in 42 points in the final frame. The Titans’ pace, defensive pressure, and attacking mindset shifted the momentum late.

Former Sudbury guard Jaylen Bland, now wearing Titans colours, added 15 points off the bench in his return to Sudbury, providing timely scoring during the comeback push.

With 12 seconds remaining, Joel Kindred drilled a clutch three-pointer to cut the deficit to 116–113, setting up one final defensive stand. The Titans forced a contested look on the ensuing possession, but Sudbury secured the rebound as time expired.

What This Means for the KW Titans

While the final score favoured Sudbury, the Titans’ fourth-quarter execution reinforced the team’s identity — relentless, composed, and capable of explosive scoring runs.

Saturday’s matchup proved once again that when this group locks in defensively and pushes the pace, they can compete with anyone in the league.

The Titans now turn their attention to a road matchup against the Windsor Express on Wednesday, looking to carry their late-game momentum forward.

Don’t Miss the Next Home Battle

The Titans are building something special and every possession matters as we push toward the playoffs.

Bring the noise. Bring the energy. Defend The Aud.

The Pink Shirt game on February 22 in support of anti-bullying had the Titans coming in well prepared to win. Ty Pickett came back to start after being out the last two games with an injury, coming through with 22pts and 12 rebounds for the team. Reflecting back after the game, Pickett shared that there were mistakes made throughout the game and collectively the team needs to pay more attention to the details throughout the plays.

That sentiment was echoed by Ty Groce, who contributed 20pts and 11 rebounds. “It was back and forth with two highly competitive teams, and it will always be a dog fight. They made some better decisions than we did.”

Coach Cliff reaffirmed that the team needs to play how they practice, and keep the turnovers down, focusing on the details and staying disciplined to the fundamentals of the game.

The Titans are preparing to hit the road for two away games, heading to Sudbury to battle against the Five on February 28, followed by a return to face Windsor on March 4. The entire team is confident that they have the ability to bring home the wins. The key is to stay focused on the basics, and continue setting up each other for the plays, just like they do in practice.

Standing 6’8″ and hailing from Ypsilanti, Michigan, Ty Groce has become a cornerstone of the KW Titans’ rotation, bringing a versatile skillset honed at Butler University and Eastern Michigan.

Known for his “next man up” mentality, Groce has been a consistent force on the floor, frequently appearing as a league leader with an impressive 57.9% field goal percentage. His impact has been felt in some of the Titans’ biggest matchups this season, including leading all scorers with 22 points during the Family Day game against the Lebanon Leprechauns and earning Player of the Game honours against both the Windsor Express and Montreal Toundra.

In a recent interview, Groce emphasized that his biggest personal improvement has been his “consistent confidence and aggressiveness”, noting that he focuses on making the right play to get his teammates open, rather than just hunting for his own shots.

This team-first attitude is particularly vital as the Titans navigate a season marked by injuries, with Groce believing that the team’s depth and chemistry are trending in a direction that will make them “really special” once fully healthy.

Beyond his on-court performance, Groce’s journey is one of profound resilience, making him a perfect ambassador for the Pink Shirt Game on February 22nd, a night dedicated to anti-bullying and kindness. At 18, during his transition to college, Ty faced a significant battle with major depression and bipolar disorder, a time when he felt he was “losing his mind” and basketball became an afterthought to his mental health.

By prioritizing his well-being and seeking professional therapy, he successfully navigated those challenges and returned to the game with a renewed passion, now feeling “100 percent”. His story serves as a powerful reminder that strength often comes from vulnerability and that you never truly know what someone else is going through.

As the Titans continue their push toward the top of the Basketball Super League standings, currently sitting in second place with an 11-4 record, Groce remains a key figure both for his statistical contributions and his leadership in the Waterloo community.

The KW Titans are off to the best start in franchise history for the 25/26 season, and the race for first place in the Basketball Super League is heating up.

At 11 wins, the Titans hold the most victories in the league and are battling the reigning champions the Sudbury Five for first place just past the season’s halfway mark. Sudbury narrowly leads in win percentage (.769) having played two fewer games, while the Titans sit at .733, but the momentum, depth, and consistency coming out of KW are impossible to ignore.

The 25/26 season began with a franchise-best 5–0 start. From game one, the team has played with a poise, precision, and confidence that has carried into the heart of the season. Statistically, the Titans are setting the standard in the league:

  • League-leading 49.7% from the field
  • League-best 74.1% from the free-throw line
  • Matching Sudbury from beyond the arc

The Titans have scoring strength from deep in their roster. Ty Pickett, Tarkus Ferguson, Antoine Mason, James Towns and Ty Groce are consistently delivering points, with major defence and rebound contributions from Nathan Charles, CJ Felder, Zakeem Davis and Braden Bell.

Head Coach Cliff Clinkscales and Assistant Coach James Robinson have instilled a culture of accountability, preparation, and unity. Under their guidance, the Titans are focusing on the main thing, and that’s playing good basketball. The result: a team that believes it belongs at the top.

“We focus on one game at a time. Never looking ahead. Putting in the consistent work everyday, which shows on the court and off. Stack good days and we want to OUT WORK TO WORK.” ~ Coach James

The KW Titans delivered a statement performance this past weekend, securing two vital wins that showcased both their late-game resilience and their offensive firepower. The weekend started with a road trip on February 15, 2026, where the Titans outlasted the Lake Erie Jackals in a 129-120 overtime thriller.

In a game defined by its back-and-forth nature, featuring nine ties and four lead changes, the Titans relied on a massive 50-point contribution from their bench to stay competitive against a 38-point explosion from Lake Erie’s Joshua Dominguez.

Player of the Game Ty Pickett was the anchor for KW, recording 30 points and 9 rebounds on a highly efficient 12-of-15 shooting performance, while Tarkus Ferguson provided a critical spark off the bench with 27 points. The difference-maker proved to be the extra period, where the Titans’ superior conditioning and three-point shooting (42.4% for the game) allowed them to outscore the Jackals 15-6 in overtime to pull away for the win.

The momentum carried over to February 16, 2026, for a celebratory Family Day home game at The Aud, where the Titans dismantled the Lebanon Leprechauns in a 115-92 blowout. The Titans established dominance immediately, racing to a 30-18 lead in the first quarter and never looking back, eventually leading by as many as 37 points.

While Ty Groce led all scorers with 22 points, Zakeem Davis earned Player of the Game honors by racking up a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. The Titans’ offensive rhythm was bolstered by an exceptional 43.2% shooting display from beyond the arc and a near-perfect 85.2% from the free-throw line, which stifled any hope of a Lebanon comeback despite a 19-point effort from JoMel Boyd.

With strong interior defence that saw them out-rebound the Leprechauns 54-46 and another deep bench performance led by Joel Kindred, the Titans ensured the home crowd went home happy, capping off a perfect two-game stretch that cements their status as a force in the Basketball Super League.

If you’ve spent any time following the KW Titans this season, you’ve probably seen the silhouette of guard Antoine Mason, a picture of perfect concentration as he releases a shot. While that image has become a centerpiece of the team’s promotional material, for Mason, it represents far more than just a brand; it is the physical manifestation of a lifetime spent in gyms of the elite.

Standing tall at 6’3″, the Queens, New York native has brought a high-major pedigree to the local hardwood. After a standout collegiate career at Niagara University, where he was one of the nation’s top scorers, and Auburn University, he began a professional journey that spanned the globe.

Mason played for Apollon Limassol in the Cypriot League before joining current Titans head coach Cliff Clinkscales on the Halifax Hurricanes. In Halifax, he emerged as a premier scorer, averaging a career-high 25.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game, highlighted by a career-high 44-point outing against the St. John’s Edge.

Now settled as the “guard to beat” for the Titans, Mason carries the legacy of his late father, NBA legend Anthony Mason. Having spent his youth watching his father battle on the world’s biggest stages for the New York Knicks, the high-pressure professional environment feels entirely “natural” to him. Currently ranking 10th in the league with 14.2 points per game, Mason remains a top leader whose game is anchored by a veteran philosophy: “You can’t get too high on your highs and low on your lows”.

On the court, Mason operates like a chess player, constantly reading how the defense chooses to engage him. “It’s always an advantage how somebody guards you,” he explains. “I focus on if they’re playing me tight, or if they give me space, then I can shoot.”. This adaptability has made him a matchup nightmare, but his leadership extends beyond his own scoring. He is quick to defer to the “hot hand,” often setting up teammates to find the best possible look on every possession.

For the KW Titans, Antoine Mason is more than just a face on a poster, he is a high-level competitor carrying his family’s professional standard into every possession.

The KW Titans continue to prove that their biggest plays often happen off the court. On Tuesday, February 10th, Titans players Davin Miller and Zakeem Davis visited Food4Kids Waterloo Region, an organization dedicated to supporting the one in ten local households facing food insecurity.

Food4Kids focuses specifically on children aged 1-14, ensuring that those in food-insecure homes have access to healthy nourishment during weekdays, weekends and school breaks when school-led nutrition programs aren’t available.

The Titans didn’t just stop by for a visit, they got to work. Alongside dedicated Titans volunteers Jennie and Grace, and community members Nina and Aslinn, Davin and Zakeem spent the afternoon sorting and bagging fresh carrots at the Food4Kids facility.

The impact of this collective effort is massive: 1,450 children across Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Wilmot, and Woolwich will now receive these nutritious packages. For these youth, the support means more than just a meal; it leads to better focus at school, improved physical development, and a boost in overall mood and mental health.

“At the end of the day, it’s about more than basketball, it’s about the Waterloo Region,” the boys shared following the visit. “We are committed to uplifting our community through hands on engagement and lasting partnerships”.

Want the Titans to Visit You? As a community-based team, the KW Titans strive to impact the lives of local youth through every opportunity possible. Whether it’s a school assembly, a local charity event, or a community initiative, we want to hear from you!
